Families Genealogy Association, a
nonprofit organization, was formally
approved on October 17, 2007 by the state
of South Dakota after working together as
a group since late 1996.

In that
period of time we have had many hundreds
of Hatcher descendants contribute
everything from a few details to entire
families, tombstone and family pictures,
and untold hours of research both online
and offline. As a result of those
efforts, we have accumulated an
overwhelming abundance of records and
documentation on the Hatchers in America
that has assisted in identifying several
unique Hatcher families.
Aiding
us in the identification of these
distinct families was our decision to set
up our Hatcher DNA project which verified
much of our research but also gave us a
number of surprises. Needless to say, we
have found that a few branches have been
grafted onto the wrong tree, leading us
into new areas of our ongoing research.
Our
family files consist of the following:
Hatchers of Henrico Co, VA - William
the Immigrant who arrived in Henrico Co,
VA, circa 1636, the ancestor of the
majority of the American Hatchers with a
file currently over 44,000 individuals.
The majority of these Hatchers in earlier
days are found predominantly in the
southern and southwestern states.
Quaker and Dorset Hatchers - On this
file are two unconnected but blood
related (proven through DNA testing)
Hatcher families. The largest group are
the descendants of William Hatcher, born
circa 1705, of Bucks Co, PA, with
descendants moving into Loudoun and
Faquier Co, VA, and then straight west
through the northern states. The second
and smaller group arrived circa 1850 from
Dorset, England, settling mainly in
Minnesota before spreading west and
northwest. The second group were not
Quakers in religion.
Unconnected Hatchers - The
individuals on this file may be a single
person up to families of a few hundred.
What they have in common is that they
have not been connected to parents,
either here or any other country. Some
have been created from descendant
submissions and others have been created
from census and other records.
English Hatchers in America - These
families were identified as English born
through census records. The earlist born
of these immigrants were born late 1700s
to early 1800s and still alive to be
found in the 1850 census. Unless
descendants can be found for these
families who are willing to take a DNA
test, it is not possible to know if they
connect to our 2 main Hatcher families.
Waccamaw Hatchers of North & South Carolina
- This family of Hatchers has been proven
through DNA testing to have a Langford as
their earliest ancestor. The earliest
Hatcher in this family was James Hatcher,
born circa 1787 in SC. Most members of
this family lived in Richland and
Scotland counties of NC and Horry and
Marlboro counties in SC and still do
today. Many are also registered members
of the Waccamaw tribe.
The African American Hatchers - A
small collection of Hatchers created
mainly from the 1870-1930 census records.
Many have been added, being identified in
the early Hatcher wills as slaves. This
file is far from complete and represents
only a fraction of our African American
Hatchers.
We hope your journey through our Hatcher files
is rewarding and we hope you will continue to
contribute through membership and any and all
new data, pictures and sources on the members
of your family.
